Dream Analysis

A Jungian & Archetypal Astrology Approach to Understanding Dreams

$90 / 1-hour Session

“Dreams are impartial, spontaneous products of the unconscious psyche, outside the control of the will. They are pure nature; they show us the unvarnished, natural truth, and are therefore fitted, as nothing else is, to give us back an attitude that accords with our basic human nature when our consciousness has strayed too far from its foundations and run into an impasse.”

                                                                                        C.G. Jung, Collected Works 10:317

In other words, dreams are our psyche's way of telling us things that we need to know about ourselves that we might be afraid or unable to face in the light of day--but which we are ready to understand, nonetheless. Dreams help to move each of us along our path of individuation.

But wow, some dreams are very heavy, strange, disturbing, absurd, nonsensical.... and yet, somehow we know they mean something important. Dreams are so much more than just a replay of random thoughts and images from the day or week before, as some modern day, abundantly left-brained psychologists believe.

What Is Involved in Dream Analysis?

The basic steps to dream analysis with me are these:

  • Before your session, you write down the dream you had, and write it in first person. ("I am standing alone on a train platform and I see...."). Do not include any interpretation or personal background in your write-up of your dream. Include only what happens in the dream. Note the date on which you had your dream. (Time doesn't matter.) Separately note anything major that was happening in your life, in real time, when you had the dream.

  • Shortly before your dream analysis session, email your dream to me.

  • At the session, you will read your dream out loud a few times. Don't worry if there are disturbing details. We don't judge the dream or the dreamer.

  • I will look at your natal chart and the planetary transits on the day you had your dream. We will discuss those psycho-spiritual patterns.

  • I will ask you questions about your dream, and we will begin to make associations. We will look closely at the symbols and archetypes present in your dream. This is where dream analysis can become so interesting and helpful. In our dream state, the unconscious brings us images that hold meaning we may not be consciously aware of. For instance, in an emotionally-jarring recurring dream I had 20 years ago, black koi fish were present. At the time, I didn't know there was such a thing as black koi fish, and I certainly didn't know what they represent psycho-spiritually.

  • You will begin to make possible correlations between the contents of the dream, the planetary transits and their archetypal meanings, and the story of your life and your soul's journey. I will not tell you what your dream means (because I have no way of knowing for sure, and it's not my place to do that), but through our process together, you will make meaning of the dream.

  • You choose whether additional dream analysis sessions would be helpful. One session may be all you need.

  • Your dream need not be recent. A dream from many years ago may still hold important information for you now.
